Named after the sponsoring public broadcaster rbb (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg), the rbb Lauf attracts over 2000 runners to the Glienicker Brücke (pictured) which connects Berlin and the city of Potsdam, capital of Germany's state of Brandenburg.

The Glienicke Bridge has come to fame as the ‘Bridge of Spies’ where the United States and the Soviet Union exchanged prisoners during the Cold War.

Starting and finishing at the bridge, participants run a 14.065km ‘Drittelmarathon’ (one third of the full marathon distance) through Potsdam, a lively and very green city that is surrounded by vast lakes.

Formerly the residence of the Prussian kings and the German emperors, Potsdam is home to a large number of outstanding sights, first of all the parks and palaces of Sanssouci.

In 2013, the fastest Drittelmarathon finishers were Stefan Hubert (46:04) and Dawn Domaschk (52:39). The time limit to complete the course is two hours.
