This trail running event in Germany's state of Bavaria offers two challenging routes — the 8.4km "Beginner Trail" and the 15km "Expert Trail".
Both races are hilly loop courses that start and finish at Kloster Andechs, a Benedictine abbey situated on top of a hill, the "Holy Mountain".
Located 40 kilometres south-west of Munich, Andechs Abbey is an important pilgrimage site — not only for Christians but also for beer lovers. The monks of Andechs have more than 600 years of brewing experience, and a range of locally produced beers can be sampled at the Abbey's "Bräustüberl".
The Andechs Trail races are run mostly on trails and gravel roads through woods and farmland north of Andechs. From the course there are fine views of the 15km-long Ammersee near Andechs and of the Alps in the distance.
Last year's inaugural event had 291 finishers. The 15k winners were Helmut Schiessl (54:54) and Kerstin Straub (1:04:45).
The entry limit is 400 runners, and you can expect the event to fill up early this year.
