Named after the sponsoring public broadcaster rbb (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg), the rbb Lauf draws over 2000 runners to the Glienicker Brücke which connects Germany's capital Berlin and the city of Potsdam, capital of the state of Brandenburg.

Starting and finishing at the bridge, participants run a 14.065km "Drittelmarathon" loop (one third of the full marathon distance) through Potsdam, a lively and very green city surrounded by vast lakes.

Formerly the residence of the Prussian kings and the German emperors, Potsdam is home to a large number of outstanding sights, first of all the parks and palaces of Sanssouci.

The Glienicke Bridge has come to fame as the "Bridge of Spies" where the United States and the Soviet Union exchanged prisoners during the Cold War.

In 2012, the fastest finishers were Tom Thurley (50:03) and Karsta Parsiegla (55:31). The time limit to complete the course is two hours.
