Held four weeks before the Budapest Marathon, the Budapest International Half Marathon draws a crowd of around 8,000 runners.

Last year, over 6,000 athletes completed the half marathon race, and another 1,800 took part in the relay races for teams of two or three runners.

The half marathon winners were Hungary's top distance runners Tamás Kovács (1:06:03) and Anikó Kálovics (1:15:04).

Starting and finishing in the vast City Park (Városliget), the race follows an attractive and certified course which passes a large number of Budapest's main sights.

Participants run, for example, along Andrássy út (Budapest's longest and grandest avenue), past the imposing Hungarian Parliament on the River Danube, and across the magnificent Chain Bridge.

Apart from a couple of bridges the route is flat and fast.
