Just about every runner in Slovenia appears to be on the streets of Ljubljana for the annual Ljubljanski maraton. Last year, almost 12,000 athletes completed one of the three courses (10k, half marathon, and full marathon).

With approximately 1100 finishers, the full marathon was the least popular distance.

The route consists of two laps of a mostly flat course through Ljubljana's nondescript suburban areas. Start and finish are in the city centre but participants don't run through the picturesque Old Town. And the time limit to complete the first lap is rather restrictive—2hr 15min.

Much more popular were the one-lap half marathon (6000 runners) and the 10k race, which started two hours earlier (4700 runners).

The entry fees are the same for all three races—up to €70—quite a lot for a 10k run.
