On a Saturday night in mid-May, around 1000 runners will join Nike—the Winged Goddess of Victory—on her run through the "Sportstadt" Schwerin, a city of about 100,000 people, located in a delightful lakeland region in north-eastern Germany.

Starting at 8pm, the Schweriner Nachtlauf is an atmospheric race, held on a very attractive 5.2-kilometre loop course through Schwerin's old town, around a small inner-city lake, and across the Schlossinsel ("Castle Island"), which is home to one of Germany's most beautiful castles.

Entrants can choose to run either one, two, three, or four laps, or they can form a four-person team to run the 20.8k as a relay.
