The Donaukanallauf in Vienna features an interesting route along the Donaukanal ('Danube Canal'), which flows through the city centre of Austria's capital.

The route is a traffic-free loop on cycleways along both banks of the canal. Competitors run one lap (4.75km) or two laps (9.5km). Children run shorter distances.

The start and finish are at the 'Strandbar Herrmann', a beach bar situated next to the Urania observatory on the edge of the inner city

In 2011, over 400 runners took part in the event. The top finishers in the 9.5km race were Martin Gansterer (32:39) and Carola Bendl-Tschiedel (40:43).
