This small running event in the far north-east of Italy offers two races across the vast Friulian Plain: a 68km competitive race and a 36km non-competitive run.

Both routes finish in the old fishing village of Marano Lagunare on the Adriatic Sea, located in a lagoon between Venice and Trieste.

Competitors in the 68k ultra marathon start at an elevation of 200 metres in the village of Buia on the northern edge of the Friulian Plain. The Prealps rise a few kilometres to the north.

The first 30 kilometres of the course follow dirt trails through woods and fields along the River Cormor, which winds its way down towards the city of Udine.

It flows through the western outskirts of Udine before it becomes the Cormor Canal that ends in the nature reserve of Laguna di Marano.

The 36km non-competitive run starts en route in Zugliano, 5km to the south of Udine's city centre.

There will be 10 feed stations along the 68km route and another one at the finish.

The time limit is a generous 9 hours for the 68k and 7 hours for the 36k.

In 2009, the winners were Paolo Massarenti (5:03:46) and Daniela Volturno (7:20:48).
