Competitors pass the monastery in Nazarje.

This is a new running event in the very pretty Upper Savinja Valley in northern Slovenia.

Entrants choose between the half marathon, the 10k race and the 5.4k "recreational run".

The start and finish are in the village of Mozirje, located at the foot of the Savinja Alps, around half-way between Slovenia's two main cities Ljubljana and Maribor.

The half marathon route is mildly undulating and follows trails, dirt roads and country lanes.

From the start at the Mozirski gaj flower park the race travels through Mozirje, and then on footpaths along the River Savinja. At the village of Nazarje, the route passes a 15th-century castle and a Franciscan monastery, which stands on top of a hill.

The route runs back along the opposite bank of the river before it takes a loop through the fields and villages to the east of Mozirje.
