Topusko Half Marathon 2010

The "Athletic-Touristic Challenge" in the small spa town of Topusko in Central Croatia is a very friendly and hospitable event.

Although there are no entry fees, all participants get a T-shirt, a medal, a warm meal, and free entry to the pools of the spa complex "Top Terme", and they don't even have to run 21 kilometres to complete the half marathon. The course is just 17 kilometres long.

The start and the finish are at the spa complex with its thermal indoor and outdoor pools.

Participants run two laps along mildly undulating roads through fields and villages.

Topusko is situated amid rolling hills, approximately 80 kilometres to the south of Zagreb and just 10 kilometres from the border with Bosnia.

The village suffered badly during the Croatian War of Independence between 1991 and 1995.

In 2009, the winners were Đuro Kodžo of Bosnia (54:37) and Ida Šurbek of Slovenia (1:02:21).
