Only very well-prepared and experienced mountain runners should try to tackle this beautiful but highly challenging trail marathon in the far north of Italy.

The point-to-point course is 41.6 kilometres long and includes 2700 metres of ascent and 2245 metres of descent. Some sections are very technical.

The race travels along the southern slopes of the Maddalene mountains which lie to the west of the city of Bolzano in the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige (Trentino-South Tyrol). The mountains are largely undiscovered and unspoilt by tourism.

Participants run along the "Bonacossa" hiking trail, mostly through open grassland at an average elevation of 2000 metres.

The highest point on the course is at almost 2300 metres above sea level. The start is at 1350 metres, the finish at 1800 metres.

The organization asks you to produce a medical certificate when you pick up your race number.

During the race, you must carry with you a rucksack or a waist bag containing a windstopper, gloves and a hat.

Along the route, there are four feed stations and two dropout points (at 15k and 30k), where runners can exit the race in case they are too tired to continue. The time limit stands at 9 hours.

In 2009, the winners were Paolo Gotti (4:41:44) and Nadia Scola (5:53:23)
