2. Mali blejski maraton 2010
2nd Bled Half Marathon
Lake Bled (Slovenia), Saturday 21 August 2010
Almost 400 runners finished last year's first edition of the half marathon around Lake Bled, Slovenia's most popular alpine resort.
The race follows the footpaths around the picture-postcard lake with its medieval castle on a clifftop and a little church island.
Entrants choose between the half marathon (three-and-a-half laps around the lake) and the 5.8k race (one lap).
The route is flat along the southern shore but undulating in the north. Some sections are quite narrow, and the course is not really suitable to set a personal record.
Most of the course is on asphalt, some sections are on hard-packed sand.
Half marathon runners start at the Zaka Rowing Centre, where the World Rowing Championships will be held in 2011. The finish is two kilometres further east on the lakeside promenade.
In 2009, the winners were Sebastian Zarnik (1:15:09) and Valerija Mrak (1:25:39).
