14th Karst Race
The Karst (Slovene: "kras", Italian: "carso") in the south-west of Slovenia is a limestone plateau region characterized by its rocky and barren landscape, caves and underground rivers, old stone houses, strong winds, air-dried "pršut" ham and the red "Teran" wine.
The Karst Race is an 11km multi-terrain event with start and finish in the pretty Karst village of Povir, which is at an elevation of 400m, just 20km from the Italian coastal city of Trieste.
You run about 7km on dirt roads and around 4km on asphalt. The rural, undulating course features some stiff climbs and takes you through three villages, where you can expect lots of support from the locals.
In 2008, 18-year-old talent Tine Torkar won the race on a very wet and windy day in 38:12. Aleksandra Fortin was first woman in a time of 45:07.
