31st Karst Half Marathon

Apart from the traffic on the route, which can be quite heavy and annoying, everything is fine in this half marathon in Italy near the Mediterranean Sea.

The event is based in the pretty village of Aurisina (Slovene: Nabrežina), 15km from the port of Trieste and just 7km from Duino with its beautiful cliffs and castle.

Aurisina is located on the hilly limestone plateau of the Karst that rises steeply from the coast. Although just 1km from the shore, the village is at an elevation of about 140 metres above sea level.

The race follows an undulating out-and-back course. The first 5km or so are uphill, and then it's always going up or down.

Unfortunately, there are very few traffic regulations although the first 6.5km are on a busy main road. The rest of the course is much quieter.

The finisher buffet and the pasta party, held after the race in a small park, are really nice, and the top finishers will be awarded with many good prizes.

In 2008, the winners were Stefano Zancan (1:12:19) and Paola Veraldi (1:23:24).
