Sinj Half Marathon

Sinj is a small town of about 11,000 inhabitants, located on a plateau 34km inland from the coastal city of Split. It's famous as a Marian pilgrimage centre but most Croatian runners will think of it as the home of the Atletski Klub Sinj, the most successful running club in Dalmatia. In the last years, it has produced male and female Croatian marathon champions although running is a minority sport in the south of Croatia.

Most of the time, the runners from the south have to travel to competitions in the north of the country. Once a year, however, the northeners hop on a bus to Sinj to show respect for the work of the Dalmatians and to take part in a very well organized half marathon in a fascinating, rocky landscape. The new course is flat and certified.

Last year, the fastest of the 133 half marathon finshers were Hungarian Zsolt Benedek (1:07:32) and Marija Vrajić from Croatia (1:24:32).
