10. Grossglockner Mountain Race

In this mountain race with an ascent of 1514 metres you will start in the village of Heiligenblut (1256m) at the foot of Austria's highest peak, the 3798-metre Grossglockner.

The route is on varied terrain, includes some downhill sections, and takes you through meadows and forests and around two glacial lakes. The last kilometre is particularly tough with an ascent of about 300 metres.

The finish is at Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe (2370m), the main vantage point for sightseers coming from the High Alpine Toll Road. The place offers stunning views of the Grossglockner and the Pasterze glacier.

In 2008, the winners were New Zealand's seven time world mountain running champion Jonathan Wyatt (1:12:01) and Anna Pichrtová of the Czech Republic (1:25:08), winner of the world mountain running trophy 2007.
