The Brasov International Marathon (Romanian: Maratonul International Brașov) is a road running event held yearly since 2015 in Brașov, Romania's seventh-largest city with a population of more than 250,000 people.

Situated at the foot of the Carpathians in the Transylvania region, Brașov can be easily reached by train from Bucharest in about two and a half hours.

The event offers races for the whole family:

  • children's races (on Saturday)
  • 2.5km fun run
  • 5.7km
  • 10.7km
  • 21.1km half marathon
  • 42.2km marathon
  • 4x10.7km relay

All routes begin and end on Piața Sfatului (Council Square), the main square in the Old Town (pictured).

The shorter races are undulating single-loop courses whereas the 42.2km marathon features a very challenging route with more than 800 metres of ascent.

The first 15.5km are run in the city but then comes a 12km-long climb along the mountain road that runs up to the Poiana Brașov ski resort. The highest point on the course is at an elevation of 1,028 metres. From there, competitors run the same way back to the city centre.
