Held since 2002 in Poland's ancient capital of Kraków (also known as Cracow), a lively and beautiful city with a population of about 800,000, the Cracovia Maraton attracts an international crowd of around 5,000 marathon runners.

The start and the finish are on Rynek Głowny, Europe's largest medieval town square, a real showpiece of a square.

The route is a certified and mostly-flat single-loop course through the city centre, along both banks of the Wisła river and through Nowa Huta, a model socialist district in the eastern part of Kraków.
