Cjaminade fra Amis, Gonars, Friuli, Italia - a running event on the Bassa Friulana Plain (Copyright © 2015 Hendrik Böttger / runinternational.eu)

The Cjaminade fra Amis is a non-competitive running and hiking event held yearly in March in the Province of Udine in the autonomous Friuli Venezia Giulia region in the north-eastern corner of Italy.

Every year, around 2,000 or more people travel from near and far to the village of Gonars to take part in the event.

Four very flat routes are available, approximately 6km, 12km, 21km and 35km long. Participants can still decide on the course which distance they want to run (or walk).

The route runs on mixed terrain (asphalt, gravel and trails) through agricultural land, woods, vineyards and villages on the vast Bassa Friulana plain.

There are several feed stations along the course, some of them offering local delicacies like Friulian wine and musetto (a type of spiced pork sausage). After the run, more food and drinks are available at very reasonable prices.

The entry fees are very low and even lower if you are registered with the FIASP (Federazione Italiana Amatori Sport Per Tutti) sports federation.
