Held annually in March, the Kokos Trail features two very challenging and spectacularly-scenic trail running races around the village of Basovizza which sits on the thinly-populated carso (Karst Plateau) above the Adriatic port of Trieste in the north-eastern corner of Italy, very close to the border with Slovenia.

The 10k race includes around 400m of ascent, the 16k race approximately 600m.

Starting and finishing at Basovizza's Campo Zarja football pitch (at 390m above sea level), the route runs through beautiful woods and grassland.

Both routes take the runners up and down the slopes of Monte Cocusso (Slovene: Kokoš; 672m).

The event also offers a non-competitive 8k run with 200m of ascent.
