The Aabenraa Bjergmarathon (‘Aabenraa Mountain Marathon’) is held annually in Aabenraa, a town of about 16,000 people in the Syddanmark (Southern Denmark) region.

The event offers races for the whole family:

  • 500m børneløb (kids' run)
  • 1,500m børneløb (kids' run)
  • 5.8km løb og walk (run and walk)
  • 10km løb (10k run)
  • 21.1km halvmarathon løb og walk (half marathon run and walk)
  • 42.2km marathon

Marathoners run two laps of the half marathon course, which is very scenic and very hilly (about 330 metres of ascent over the 21.1 kilometres).

Starting on Storetorv square, the route takes the runners along the narrow streets of the picturesque old town, through the harbour, through woods and fields in the hills east of Aabenraa, and along the Baltic Sea coast.

The race is run mainly on asphalt roads.

Approximately 70 percent of the course are out and back.
