Organized by the Budapest Athletic Federation, the NATO Run (or NATO futás in Hungarian) is a popular event that attracts an international field of well over 1,000 runners.

In 2016, the event will feature a new course, which we find even more scenic than the former point-to-point course through the city centre.

All races — 4km, 10km and the 10km relay race for teams of two — will begin, like before, at Vérmező, a public park below Castle Hill in Buda, the western part of the city.

The 10k race will take the runners through the tunnel under the hill (pictured below), along the River Danube, around Buda Castle (pictured above), uphill to the Castle District, and along the beautiful Tóth Árpád Promenade, which offers excellent views of Buda. The finish line will be at the Military History Museum on top of the hill.

Compared to other big running events in Budapest the entry fees are very low, ranging from €7 to €13 for the 10k race.
