This půlmaraton (half marathon) is held at the Czech Republic's largest lake, the 42-kilometre-long Lipno Reservoir, which sits at an elevation of 725 metres near the border with Austria.

The race is the fifth of nine races of the Kilpi Trail Running Cup (KTRC).

Starting in Lipno nad Vltavou, a modern summer and winter sports resort in the Šumava (Bohemian Forest), the route is a very challenging multi-terrain loop.

The race is run on a mix of trails, ski slopes, gravel and asphalt roads. The difference between the lowest and the highest point on the course is 366 metres.

Participants should be able to finish the race within three hours from the start.

The highest point on the course is on top of the 40-metre-high observation tower of the Stezka korunami stromů (Treetop Walkway). Built in 2012 on the summit of the Kramolín hill (899m), the walkway offers wonderful panoramic views of the region.

In addition to the half marathon the event offers an undulating 5k run which takes the runners out and back along the lakefront and across the Lipno Dam, a hydroelectric dam across the River Vltava.
