Held annually on a Saturday night in mid-August, the Stinatzer Halbmarathon attracts around 400 runners and nordic walkers from Austria and beyond, in particular from the neighbouring countries Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia.

The event takes place in the village of Stinatz which is located in the southern part of the Burgenland, the least populated of Austria's nine states.

Entrants can choose between the 4.2km run (one lap), the 8.4km race for runners and nordic walkers (two laps) or the 21.1km half marathon (five laps).

Stinatz is situated amid rolling countryside, so it comes as no surprise that the route is a bit undulating. The difference between the lowest and the highest point on the course is about 20 metres.

The races kick off at 7.15pm but there's no need to worry about running in the darkness as the course is illuminated with torches after nightfall.

There's also plenty of live music all along the course.
