This road running event takes place in Banská Bystrica, a city of about 80,000 people, situated in the Hron River Valley in Slovakia's mountainous heartland.

The event begins with the children's races on Saturday morning, followed by the pasta party in the afternoon and rock concerts (Brainscan, Grabstein) in the evening.

The marathon, the half marathon, the barefoot half marathon (polmaratón na boso) and the half marathon relay start off at 9am on Sunday morning.

Participants in the full marathon run two laps of the half marathon course, which begins and ends on Banská Bystrica's delightful main square in the historic centre.

The route is IAAF-certified and very undulating, with a difference of about 30m between the lowest and the highest point on the course. Each lap includes 140m of ascent.

The time limit to finish the race is three hours for the half and five hours for the full marathon.
