Runners in Central Europe can look forward to a new running event in Slovakia's capital — the Salomon City Trail Bratislava.

The route is a 14.8km loop through the hilly western part of the city, starting and finishing at the imposing Bratislava Castle in the city centre.

The difference between the highest and the lowest point on the course is about 100 metres. Overall, the race features 280 metres of ascent and 280 metres of descent.

Participants will run through residential and green areas, through a campus of the Comenius University (the largest university in Slovakia), past the Slavín monument and military cemetery (pictured) where almost 7,000 Soviet Army soldiers are buried, through a villa-and-embassy quarter, and along some narrow cobbled streets in the historic city centre.
