Entrants to the Schweriner Nachtlauf can choose to run either one, two, three, or four laps of a very scenic 5km loop course through Schwerin, an old city of about 100,000 people, situated in a delightful lakeland region in northern Germany.

Held annually on a Saturday night in May, the event attracts around 1000 runners.

The route takes the runners through Schwerin's impressive Altstadt, around two lakes, across the Schlossinsel (‘Castle Island’) which is home to one of Germany's most beautiful castles, and through the baroque Schlossgarten.

The event also offers a relay for teams of four runners (4x5km) as well as races for children, nordic walkers, handcyclists and wheelchair racers.
