The Salzburg Marathon in Austria features a truly grand setting and a flat and scenic course. Approximately 5,000 distance runners took part in the event last year.

Entrants are given the choice between the 10k point-to-point race, the half marathon (one lap), and the marathon (two laps).

The marathon route is accurately measured and IAAF/AIMS-certified, starting and finishing at the imposing cathedral in the beautiful Old Town (pictured).

On its way through the historic centre, along the River Salzach, through rural areas and woods, and around a lovely lake, the route passes a large number of Salzburg's best sights, including the city's most impressive palaces.

Participants in the 10k race run the last ten kilometres of the marathon course. The start and the finish areas are about two kilometres apart.

The time limit to finish the marathon is 5hr 45min. Participants in the full marathon can still decide on the course if they want to cross the finish line after one or after two laps.
