Štrba (Slovakia), Sunday 12 July 2015
The Malý štrbský maratón attracts runners from all over Slovakia and beyond to the village of Štrba which sits in a green valley between two imposing mountain ranges, the High Tatras to the north and the Low Tatras to the south.
The event features children's races and two road races for adults — 10km and 31km.
Both races take the runners out and back a country road into the foothills of the Low Tatras. The turning point for the 10k is in the village of Šuňava, the turning point for the 31k in the village of Liptovská Teplička.
The route runs through beautiful woods and grassland and it offers fantastic views of the High Tatras, but it is also rather hilly and challenging. The difference between the lowest and the highest point on the 31km course is approximately 100 metres.
