This summer night running event in the Hanseatic City of Rostock features a 2.5km children's race, a 7km run, a half and a full marathon, and a marathon relay for teams of eight runners.

The 42.2km race starts off at 6pm on Neuer Markt, the main square in Rostock's Old Town. At first, participants run two laps through the city centre. Then, the route runs along the River Warnow and through rural areas to the Warnow Tunnel, a 790m-long road tunnel under the river.

Participants in the half marathon join the marathon field at 7.55pm at the eastern entrance to the tunnel—the halfway mark of the marathon.

The route runs through the tunnel, after that through the IGA Park, which was created for the 2003 World Horticultural Exposition (Internationale Gartenschau), once again through the tunnel, and back home to the city centre.

Last year, Roger Schnyder (1:20:55) and Anna Weidlich (1:26:41) led a field of 768 half marathon runners across the finish line on Neuer Markt.

The full marathon had 242 finishers. The winners were Paul Schmidt (2:30:33) and Sarah Stuckenbrock (3:31:50). The time limit to finish the race is 5hr 30min.
