The Mörbischer Lauftag is staged in a lovely location on Lake Neusiedl (German: Neusiedler See, Hungarian: Fertő), a 36km-long lake that is shared by Austria and Hungary. The lake is very shallow and mostly surrounded by reed beds.

All races (half marathon, 5k, children's races) start and finish in the pretty village of Mörbisch am See which sits on the border between Austria and Hungary.

The 5k race is six laps through the village whereas participants in the half marathon run four laps of a mostly flat course through vineyards close to the shore.
