Elite athletes and fun runners between 35 and 79 of age are allowed to take part in the Masters World Mountain Running Championships 2014.

Younger athletes (and those who don't want to compete in the championships) can take part in the Open Race.

The event will be held in Telfes im Stubai, a village of 1,500 people in the Stubaital (Stubai Valley), which is located near the city of Innsbruck in Austria's state of Tyrol.

The young lads (aged between 35 and 54) will run 11.5km of a scenic uphill course that begins in the centre of the village. The route includes approximately 1100m of elevation gain.

Men of mature years (aged between 55 and 79) and all women will start higher up the course. They will run 7.2km, with 760m of elevation gain.

Participants will run on trails through forests and through the ‘Schlick 2000’ ski area to the finish line at the Kreuzjoch cableway station, which sits on a mountain ridge at 2100m above sea level.

The route is well known to runners who have participated in the Schlickeralmlauf, a prestigious mountain race that is held every year (but not this year) in the summer.
