The Lake Garda Marathon in northern Italy offers a 42.2km marathon, a 30km race, and a non-competitive 15km fun run.

All three routes are gently-undulating and immensely scenic, starting in Malcesine (pictured) on the eastern shore, and ending in Torbole sul Garda at the northern end of the lake.

The marathon route can be divided into three segments — a 15km loop to the village of Brenzone (located about 7.5km south of Malcesine), followed by a 15km run from Malcesine to Torbole, and a 12.2km loop through the fertile area north of the lake.

Approximately 1700 runners took part in the event last year.

The marathon winners were Rachid Benhamdane of Morocco (2:27:03) and Monica Carlin of Italy (3:04:45). The time limit to finish the race is six hours.
