Organized by the athletics club LCC-Wien, the Wiener Herbstmarathon offers the following races:

  • 7km (one lap)
  • half marathon (three laps)
  • marathon (six laps)
  • half marathon relay (3x7km)
  • marathon relay (6x7km)

The route is a pancake-flat, traffic-free, and AIMS-certified 7032.5-metre loop through the Prater, Vienna's largest public park.

Starting and finishing on the athletics track of the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Austria's biggest stadium, approximately 4.5km of each lap are run (partly out and back) on the Prater Hauptallee, a beautiful avenue that is lined with chestnut trees (pictured).

Each lap features one turning point on the Hauptallee.

In 2013, the Herbstmarathon welcomed around 1000 competitors. The fastest marathon finishers were Petr Svoboda of the Czech Republic (2:41:19) and Elisabeth Reiter of Austria (3:07:59). The time limit to finish the race is six hours.
