Entrants to the Schweriner Nachtlauf can choose to run either 5km, 10km, 15km or 20km through Schwerin, an old city of about 100,000 people, situated in a delightful lakeland region in northern Germany.

Held annually on a Saturday night in May, the event attracts around 1000 runners.

The route is a very scenic 5km loop. Competitors run through Schwerin's impressive Altstadt, around two lakes, across the Schlossinsel (‘Castle Island’) which is home to one of Germany's most beautiful castles, and through the baroque Schlossgarten.

The event also offers children's races, a handcycling race, a 5km nordic walking competition, and a relay race for teams of four runners (4x5km).
