The Europamarathon is an exciting and truly international event as it takes runners through two countries but only one city: Görlitz-Zgorzelec has been divided in two since 1945 — Görlitz in Germany and Zgorzelec in Poland.
The half marathon, the 2k run, and the children's race are held on German soil but the full marathon, the 10k, and the 5k are cross-border races.
The course is accurately measured and certified. However, with its undulating profile the course has not been designed to set European records but to enjoy the experience of running through two very different parts of one city.
The start/finish area is in Görlitz's Old Town with its unique ensemble of late-Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque houses and approximately 4000 listed buildings!
In 2013, the event welcomed an international crowd of around 1300 runners, inline skaters, walkers, handcyclists, and kickbike riders.
