The Schneeberglauf is an uphill mountain running race which features about 1200 metres of elevation gain over a 10-kilometre route.

Starting in the resort of Puchberg am Schneeberg (located approximately 75 kilometres from Vienna), runners compete against the Schneebergbahn, a historic steam train that runs up and down the Schneeberg (2076m), Austria's easternmost mountain over 2000 metres high (pictured).

The route is on mixed terrain (asphalt, gravel, and trails). The finish line is at an elevation of 1800 metres at the summit station of the Schneebergbahn.

In 2012, around 300 mountain runners took part in the event. The top finishers were David Schneider of Switzerland (55:24) and Gabi Eberhardt of Austria (1:15:31). Only three runners beat the Schneebergbahn, which finished in 58:39.
