Held on the eastern shore of Italy's largest lake, the Lake Garda Marathon offers a 15km run (which had approximately 700 participants last year), a 30km race (about 500 participants), and a 42.2km marathon (about 700 participants).

The 15k is open to all runners as it is a non-competitive fun run without timekeeping. Entrants to the 30k and to the marathon, however, must provide a medical certificate at registration if they are not registered with an official athletic club.

This year, the event features a new course.

All routes are immensely scenic, starting in Malcesine (pictured) on the eastern shore, and ending in Torbole at the northern end of the lake.

The marathon includes a loop to the village of Arco north of Lake Garda.

The ferry transport from Torbole to Malcesine is included in the entry fees.

In 2012, the marathon winners were Pietro Colnaghi of Italy (2:33:45) and Daniela Cârlan of Romania (2:47:18). The time limit to finish the race is six hours.
