9th ‘Ulten Farm Run’ 2013

Held in Italy's northernmost province of South Tyrol, the Ultner Höfelauf offers two challenging multi-terrain races (8.4km and 17.9km) as well as a number of shorter children's races and an 8.4km walk. Last year, the event had over 400 finishers.

The event is staged in the lovely Ultental (Italian: Val d'Ultimo), a green alpine valley that leads from Lana (near the spa town of Merano), to the foot of the impressive Ortler Alps. Ninety-eight per cent of the valley's population speak German as a first language.

Starting and finishing in the village of Kuppelwies (Italian: Pracupola), which is situated at an elevation of 1145 metres on the edge of a reservoir with a huge dam, the route is a very scenic loop through pastures, woods and villages. Along the route, runners pass many traditional farm buildings (German: "Höfe").

The first half of the route is mostly uphill, the second half downhill.
