Like the Halbmarathon München the Sommernachtslauf takes place entirely in the Olympiapark, which was created for the Olympic Games 1972 in Munich.

Starting at 7.30pm on a Thursday night in high summer, participants run either one lap (6km) or two laps (10km) of an undulating course that begins and ends on the warm-up athletics track behind the Olympic Stadium.

Competitors can still decide during the race which distance they want to run.

From the course there are fine views of the Olympiasee lake (pictured) and of the many sports venues around.

Over 1100 runners took part in the event last year.
