Start is in the village of Schenna/Scena in South Tyrol.

The Berglauf Meran 2000 mountain running race features a very demanding 10km uphill route which includes approximately 1300 metres of elevation gain.

Previously held in May, the event has been moved to early September.

So far, it has been a relatively small race with less than 200 participants. Nevertheless, it has attracted a fair number of world-class mountain runners.

Last year, the fastest finishers were Abraham Kidane Habtom of Eritrea (57:06) and Antonella Confortola of Italy (1:13:33).

The event takes place in Italy's beautiful alpine province of South Tyrol, where German is the most widely spoken language. Start is in the village of Schenna (Italian: Scena), situated on the edge of the spa town of Meran (Merano).

The first part of the route is on asphalt but most of the race is on dirt roads, trails and ski slopes. The finish is at 1886 metres above sea level in the Meran 2000 ski area.

The  time limit to complete the course is two and a half hours.
