Participants in the International Usedom Marathon get plenty of fresh sea air as they run 42.2 kilometres of a very attractive and scenic course along the Baltic coast.

The full marathon is a point-to-point course which starts in Poland and finishes in Germany, whereas the half marathon is a loop course in Germany.

The start of the marathon is on the beach promenade in the Polish port of Świnoujście. About 2km are run on Polish soil before the route crosses the border into Germany.

The race is run on mildly undulating roads, paved promenades, bikeways and forest trails along the coastline of the popular holiday island of Usedom.

Competitors run through a number of resorts, most notably the old "Kaiserbäder" of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin with its many beautiful villas.

The finish is on the athletics track in the small harbour town of Wolgast.

Last year, 220 runners completed the marathon course, and 300 finished the half marathon. The marathon winners were Łukasz Hryciuk of Poland (2:35:34) and Juliane Heinze of Germany (3:10:45).
