The Casinolauf is held on Austria's National Day—the "Nationalfeiertag"—which is celebrated on October 26th. Over 300 runners of all ages took part in last year's event.

The event offers a 10k race (two laps), a 5k run (one lap), and children's races.

The start and finish are at the casino in the resort of Velden at the western end of the Wörthersee, a popular summer holiday destination in Austria's state of Carinthia.

This year, the event features a new course which runs out and back the "Seecorso" road along the southern shore of the lake.

The route is mostly flat and fast, and for the time of the race it will be closed to traffic.
