Although the Maratonina delle 2 Province is held in mid-January, the event offers a fair chance to clock a fast half marathon time.

The course is usually snow-free, and apart from a couple of bridges it's flat and fast.

Start and finish are in the village of Medea, located on the Friulian Plain in the far north-east of Italy, between the cities of Udine and Trieste. The Adriatic coast is less than 30km to the south.

Most of the route is out-and-back through fields and villages in the provinces of Udine and Gorizia.

In 2011, the winners were Nelson Olempayei (1:08:25) and Juliana Driutti (1:30:10).
