Around 1500 runners are expected to make their way to the town of Belluno in northerm Italy for the 5th Santaklaus Running, to be held on December 16, 2012.

Entrants need a medical certificate to take part in the half marathon but they don't need it for the 6km and 12km fun runs.

All participants get a Santa Claus outfit which they must wear during the race.

The start and finish are on the very pretty main square of Belluno, an old town of 36,000 people, situated at the foot of the Dolomites, about 100 kilometres north of Venice.

Participants run a short loop through Belluno's historic centre, followed by a long loop through rural areas and villages.

The route is very varied, scenic and challenging, with some interesting off-road sections. The half marathon includes overall about 190 metres of ascent.

In 2011, the fastest Santa Claus was Nicola Spada (1:11:30). Silvia Serafini was the first Santa Claudia (1:22:27).
