6th "From the Lake to the Mountain" 2011

From the lake ...
This scenic uphill road running race begins at the casino in the resort of Velden on the Wörthersee (the largest lake in southern Austria) and ends at a restaurant in the hills of the Ossiacher Tauern.
The route is 9.2 kilometres long and includes a bit more than 500 metres of climbing. Participants run on paved roads, which are closed to traffic during the race. Some sections are relatively steep, and there are some short downhills as well, but most of the course consists of gentle climbs.
The route runs through some lovely countryside and pretty villages and it offers fine panoramic views of the Karawanks mountain range which forms the border with Slovenia.
From the finish, participants walk 1.5 kilometres back to the award ceremony in the village of Köstenberg, home of one of the leading golf courses in Austria. After the event, shuttle buses take the runners home to Velden.
In 2009, the winners were Robert Stark (36:16) and Sabine Kozak (45:27).
