The Herbstmarathon features a pancake-flat, traffic-free, and AIMS-certified course. The route is a 7km-loop through Vienna's wooded Prater park.

Entrants choose between the 7K run, the half marathon, or the full marathon.

The half marathon consists of three laps (plus 97.5 metres). Participants in the full marathon run six laps (plus 195 metres).

Start and finish are near the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Austria's largest football stadium. Most of the route is out-and-back the Prater Hauptallee, a 4km-long avenue lined with chestnut trees.

In 2010, the event had around 700 participants. Alfred Sungi won the marathon in 2:38:01, Barbara Pliessnig led the women home in 3:16:24.
